Whole body DXA scans are easy to perform. They need a short time, and a very low radiation dose is delivered to the patients. Results obtained from these scans are of high interest in many medical specialties as they give precise information not only for the bone mineral content of the skeleton but also for the body composition in lean mass and fat mass. However, the manufacturers have made specific choices of technologies and software applications for their DXA systems which, in consequence, are not similarly calibrated. Therefore, results that can be obtained for the same patient with one DXA system could be dramatically different from those obtained with another DXA system. Physicians and drug companies involved in multi-centre studies know how important this point is.

Stratec developed the XCT 2000L to make three-dimensional assessments of cortical and trabecular bone in one evaluation. It is a precise, true volumetric measurement instrument that establishes all bone mechanical parameters at the forearm and distal tibia (cortical thickness, trabecular density, moment of inertia, etc). It meets the most demanding requirements of the bone specialist and is unsurpassed in orthopedics and pediatrics.
